The Armstrong Athletics 12U All-Star League Team, led by Coaches Michael Reed and Brian Shaffer improved to 4-1 on the season with a blockbuster win against Center Township in six innings on Monday evening at Center Township. Center Township tied the score in the bottom of the first, 2-2, but Armstrong roared back in the second to score two more with singles from Jaden Sims and Gavin Crissman. Center Township was held scoreless in the second, but scored two runs in the third inning to again tie the game, 4-4.

Armstrong once again took the lead in the fourth with a double from Brayden Wright and a single from Jaden Sims. The score remained Armstrong 6, Center Township 4 heading into the sixth inning. Armstrong exploded in the top of the sixth with singles from Jaden Sims and Ceejay Reesman, doubles from Chase Jablonski and Justin Reiss, but the firepower was unleashed with the first career GRAND SLAM by Brayden Wright and the first career HOMERUN by Maddox Shaffer! This marks the second game in a row that Armstrong has hit 2 HOMERUNS in one game. Armstrong took the lead 14-4.

With the end of the game eminent, Center Township loaded the bases on walks and the next batter blasted a GRAND SLAM over the left field fence, again revising the score Armstrong 14, Center Township 8, but that wasn’t enough to overcome Armstrong’s breakout inning. Relief pitcher Carson Delano notched two strikeouts and Justin Reiss recorded the last out of the game with a play at second base, and ended the game with the final score Armstrong 14, Center Township 8.

“These boys are really playing some good baseball and playing as a team,” commented Coach Shaffer. “This was the first time ever in my years of playing and coaching baseball that I’ve seen two GRAND SLAMS in the SAME INNING!”

Armstrong has been led by strong hitting with homeruns this season by Brayden Wright, Hunter Reed and Maddox Shaffer. Armstrong will take the field again next Monday against Karns City at 6pm at the Karns City Ballfield.
