2019 Home Run Derby

Armstrong Athletics is proud to announce our First Annual 2019 Home Run Derby! Below are the official rules and instructions on how to Register for this fun event!

DATE: Sunday, July 14, 2019
LOCATION: Pawkovich Ballpark, 115 Maple Lane, Worthington, PA 16262 (click for map & directions)
TIME: Qualifier Round starts at 10:00 AM, Final Main Event starts at 5:00 PM. (*ACTUAL EVENT TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.)
ENTRY FEE: $20/competitor. Entry Fee includes an event t-shirt.

Eligibility Requirements and general rules:
  • Any Armstrong Athletics Baseball or Softball Player League Age 7-14 are eligible to participate.
  • Youth competitors League Age is determined by their League Age as of the 2019 Spring Regular Season.
  • Any Armstrong Athletics Manager or Coach for the 2019 Spring Season is eligible to participate.
  • Youth competitors are permitted to use any bat they choose.
  • Manager/Coach competitors MUST use a wooden bat.
  • Youth competitors must wear a batting helmet when competing.
  • An “L-Screen” must be used by each Pitcher to ensure the safety of those pitching.
  • Competitors must compete in their assigned age groups. No competitor is allowed to compete up or down an age group.
  • Each competitor is permitted to choose their own Pitcher.
  • Youth competitors ages 7-12 must have an adult pitch to them.
  • Each Pitcher will receive 3 warm-up pitches.
  • Any Youth competitor who has hit at least one “Over the Fence” Home Run during the Armstrong Athletics Regular Season or during the Armstrong Athletics End of Season Tournament is given an automatic bid to the Final Main Event. (THIS MUST BE CONFIRMED BY A TEAM MANAGER OR LEAGUE OFFICIAL.)
  • Each field will be marked with a chalk line depicting each point zone.

yOUTH QUALIFIER ROUND:
  • Competitors will be broken down into each age group, ages 7-14.
  • Competitors League Age 7-9 will compete at Stewart Field. Competitors League Age 10-14 will compete at Pawkovich Field.
  • Each competitor’s name and Pitcher will be announced before their competition slot.
  • Each competitor is given 10 TOTAL swings.
  • Points are accumulated by a ball reaching either the 1-POINT ZONE, 2-POINT ZONE or the 3-POINT ZONE (HOME RUN OVER THE FENCE) on the fly. THE LOCATION OF THE BALL’S FIRST POINT OF LANDING WILL DETERMINE THE SCORE OF THE HIT BALL. 
  • Ground balls will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • Any hit balls not reaching at least the 1-POINT ZONE (balls hit in the infield) will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • Foul Balls will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • Any ball hitting the 10′ fence on the fly at Stewart Field will be considered an “Over the Fence” Home Run and will receive 3 points.
  • Armstrong Athletics Umpires will be in the field to determine the location and score of each hit ball.
  • Each competitor’s score will be tallied by a League Official and announced at the end of their slot.
  • The Top 5 from each age group will qualify for a bid to the Final Main Event.

Manager/COACHES QUALIFIER ROUND:
  • Competitors will compete at Pawkovich Field.
  • Each competitor’s name and Pitcher will be announced before their competition slot.
  • Each competitor is given 5 TOTAL swings.
  • Foul Balls will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • Ground balls will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • An “Over the Fence” Home Run must be recorded to score points. Each Home Run will be scored as 1 point.
  • Armstrong Athletics Umpires will be in the field to determine the location and score of each hit ball.
  • Each competitor’s score will be tallied by a League Official and announced at the end of their slot.
  • The Top 5 competitors will qualify for a bid to the Final Main Event.

FINAL MAIN EVENT ROUND:
  • Competitors will be broken down into each age group, League Age 7-14, as well as the Mangers and Coaches group.
  • All competitors will compete at Pawkovich Field for the Final Main Event.
  • Each competitor’s name and Pitcher will be announced before their competition slot.
  • Each Youth competitor is given 10 TOTAL swings.
  • Each Manager/Coach competitor is given 5 TOTAL swings.
  • Competitors League Age 7-11 will receive points that are accumulated by a ball reaching either the 1-POINT ZONE, 2-POINT ZONE or the 3-POINT ZONE (HOME RUN OVER THE FENCE) on the fly. THE LOCATION OF THE BALL’S FIRST POINT OF LANDING WILL DETERMINE THE SCORE OF THE HIT BALL.

  • For Youth competitors League Age 7-11, any hit balls not reaching at least the 1-POINT ZONE (balls hit in the infield) will be counted as a swing and receive no points.
  • Competitors League Age 12 and over and Managers/Coaches must hit balls that reach the 3-POINT ZONE (HOME RUN OVER THE FENCE). ANY BALL NOT REACHING THE 3-POINT ZONE WILL COUNT AS A SWING. IF NO HOME RUNS ARE HIT, THE ROUND WILL REPLAYED.
  • Armstrong Athletics Umpires will be in the field to determine the location and score of each hit ball.
  • Each competitor’s score will be tallied by a League Official and announced at the end of their slot.
  • The Top 3 from each age group will receive awards.
  • The Grand Champion from each age group, as well as the Managers/Coaches group will receive a prize as well as the title of “Home Run Derby King!”
